All I want for Christmas is………?

So, with Xmas nearly upon us, and the mad dash of Xmas shopping stressing even the hardy of us all, here’s a little chance for us to sit back and think about ourselves!

What i’d like to know is, which games/hardware are you hoping for this Christmas? I for one am hoping to get either Skyrim or vouchers to put towards it! Hell, i’d even settle for Saints Row 3!! Lets cross our fingers that, instead of socks, pants and that awful Xmas jumper, we get our hands on those games we can’t quite manage to persuade the Mrs/Parents/significant other to buy us during the year!

Let us know what you wished for in the comments below and next week we can see if those wishes came true!

BF3 or MW3?

Hello my friends!

So, the time is almost upon us when the two heavy weights of the FPS world will be releasing their latest efforts to the world, and I would like to know which power house FPS will you be picking up, or even both?

CoD’s popularity cannot be denied and with such a strong following you would have to be a brave man to bet on BF3 coming on top, but with Dice’s excellent record and a proven track record in terms of multiplayer then you would have to say that the odds are not as good as they once were! I personally will be hiting the killing fields of Dice’s rendition on day one, as will many of my friends, but I know that there are many of you that wont touch it with a barge poll!

These two games are quite a world apart and whilst MW3 is a twitch shooter, BF3 will have you taking your time and using your nogging!

So, which one will you be getting and why?

Battlefield 3 Open Beta Update #2

Taken from the EA Battlelog news page.

Thank you for playing the Open Beta and making the final game better!

We are very excited to see so many gamers join our Battlefield 3 Open Beta. Here’s an update on the Open Beta from DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson.

I want to give you an overview of how the Open Beta is helping us shape a fantastic final game, what we are implementing based on your feedback, and how the Open Beta will help us deliver a robust gaming environment from day one.

The Open Beta is a true Beta
The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old. We need to test the new back end dedicated server structure we’ve built. Not only have we built a new game engine, but an entirely new back end system so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of dedicated servers on all platforms.

Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game.

We had to do this in order to have as many people testing as possible, in order to ensure a top quality experience when the game is released. However, we’re confident in the Battlefield formula and confident that our fans will support us in order to make Battlefield 3 better.

Dedicated servers require dedicated testing
The biggest reason for running the Open Beta is to stress test our servers and back end. Already, we are seeing 6 times the number of simultaneous players in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta compared to the Beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2! The fact that Battlefield 3 is clearly our biggest game launch ever by a magnitude of 6 makes it doubly important to test everything.

We are constantly updating the News section on Battlelog with information on what we are fixing from Open Beta to final. We appreciate your time and your feedback. The data and feedback from the Open Beta will not only directly affect the final game of Battlefield 3, but its future development and support.

We’re heading out on the road this week to let journalists experience all aspects of Battlefield 3. Stay tuned for their previews, and stay tuned for the final game on October 25th. The final game will look, play and sound better than the Open Beta. You have helped making sure of that.

Could the PSVITA replace your PS3?

Hello Fellow Nerds!

OK, before I start, here is a video i’d like you to see:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qYcK6ya5RY

After watching this video I actually feel that I could potentially have a PSVITA instead of my PS3. It will do all the things that my PS3 does but with one added bonus, I can sit on the sofa and play it whilst the Mrs watches the drivel on TV that she insists on watching.

The graphics are fantastic and with the additional thumb stick any FPS will be a breeze to play and that’s not including all the touch capabilities too. Its all we could ask for!

I really can’t see a downside to it at all, not even the short 3-5 hours battery life can put me off! I don’t want the vita to take out with me, its purely to allow me to game when ever I want at home without that stern look from the Mrs. You know the one, the “So, are we going to sit together and watch some TV?” look. Well, with the PSVITA I can say “Yes dear!”.

Yes, the screen is smaller than your TV and yes, you will need a good headset for it but I only see these as very minor issues.

So, will the PSVITA really be a handheld that I could use instead of my PS3?

I know some of you will disagree but let me know how you feel in the comments section and even give some of your own pros and con’s!

Could you be missing out on some great games?

Hello one and all!

Very recently I rented Deus Ex because i had about 5 days without any TV or internet, and within those five days I realised that I potentially could have missed out on what I personally think is an absolutley cracking game.

This is where the title to this blog comes in, if I had still had my internet I would most probably have stuck with playing the multiplayer games that I am some what addicted too and never had thought about trying Deus Ex at all. I have always been a fan of multiplayer and there are not many single player games that I can say that I have wanted to play or even finish because I am so in to the online side of them, but it’s also the developers who make less than stellar single player games to blame as well!

One of the crowds members, unluckyboy12, only ever plays online and will most probably miss out on some cracking single player games that even myself might not have ever thought of trying.

So, my point? Well, how many more games are there that I have missed due to my single mindedness? Arkham Asylum anyone? So, is there any games that you may have only thought about playing that maybe you should actually try?

Battlefield 3: Possible Team Chat Channel

Hello All,

I have been browsing the BF3 forums with a fine tooth comb looking for any new info that may be of interest to those who may be some what excited for the soon to be released Battlefield 3.

Now, one thing thats always bothered me in the BF series is the lack of complete team chat and only the option to communicate fully with your 3 squadies! Lets say, you run out of ammo and a support player runs by who is not in your squad how do you get his attention? Shoot him? Throw a grenade?

Well. I came across this thread which says that there is gonna be two channels, squad and team. I think, if true, this would be a great step forward in the series!

What are your own thoughts on this issue? Am i being fussy or do you agree with me?

This is why CoD is ruined

Now, the only reason i hate CoD now is because of some of the idiots playing it. You no longer have people trying to get kills and achieving objectives, its twats trying to spin round the fastest and who can do the best double backflip while wanking the dog.

I know this is a private game but its representational of the MP experience of CoD.
